Holly is an artist from Calgary, AB who likes to use a variety of palette knives and thick, heavy body acrylic paint to create landscapes that are full of texture, depth, dimension, colour and life. She gravitated towards palette knives and thick paint because she loves how it goes onto the canvas, layer upon layer until the painting is complete. The final result is a piece that one wants to reach out and touch because of all the juicy layers and knife strokes.
She finds inspiration all around - from the mountains to the prairies, lakes and forests, flowers and grasses. Never lacking inspiration she loves nature and being outside and is constantly taking photos of things or scenes she'd like to paint.
A neonatal nurse by education, Holly picked up a palette knife 20 years ago when she started her family and wanted to be home with her children. A self-taught artist, she has taken lessons and workshops over the years from established Canadian painters. Her work can be viewed at galleries in Edmonton, Canmore, Invermere and in many private and public collections around the world.
"Life is complicated, and each day brings new challenges. In contrast, painting gives me a special comfort; a unique pleasure that invites and invigorates"
